Early Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends kids have an orthodontic check up by age 7. Early intervention is not always needed, but allows Dr. Maxfield to:
- Evaluate bite development
- Check for early or undeveloped teeth
- Prevent damage to teeth & roots
- Correct oral habits (thumb sucking, mouth breathing, snoring)
- Avoid potential problems with self-image

If necessary, the appropriate treatment will be discussed during the first visit to our office.

Early Treatment

How it Works

The goal of early treatment is to use preventative measures to create facial balance, reduce the need for extractions, guide jaw growth, improve breathing and/or support oral hygiene.

Why it is the Best Choice for Many Patients

Early treatment is the best choice because it allows orthodontists to anticipate and correct some dental complications that may arise later in life. Additionally, early treatment is less costly and time-consuming than treatment at an older age, and the results are longer lasting

Benefits

The benefits of early treatment include improved smile aesthetics, reduced risk of future orthodontic problems, improved chewing and digestion, improved comfort, improved psychological well-being, and improved facial balance.

We are also noticing how much expansion helps to increase the airway. This increased airway can help to reduce snoring, reduce mouth-breathing, reduce bruxism (grinding teeth), and increase attention span.

Proven Results

Results are proven to be successful and long-lasting. Studies have shown that early treatment results in improved oral function, improved smile aesthetics, and improved overall psychological and social well-being

Designed to help young children who still have some or all of their primary teeth, which may prevent improper growth and alignment of permanent teeth.
